Morse Code Translator

Type text to get Morse code, or paste dots and dashes to read them as text. Letters are separated by spaces and words by a slash, the way Morse is usually written online. Press play to hear it.

It uses International Morse code: the 26 letters, the 10 digits and common punctuation. Accented letters are sent as plain letters, because Morse has no codes for most of them.

Type or paste in either box: it translates both ways.

Questions

How do you write a space in Morse code?

Put a space between letters and a slash (/) between words. When Morse is sent as sound or light, letters are separated by a pause as long as three dots and words by a pause as long as seven.

What is SOS in Morse code?

... --- ... — three dots, three dashes, three dots, sent as one signal without the usual gaps between letters. It was chosen because it is easy to send and recognise, not because the letters stand for anything.

Can I paste Morse code written with other symbols?

Yes. The translator reads ., · and • as dots and -, − and _ as dashes, and splits words on a slash, a vertical bar or a long gap.
